26 Oct Project Spotlight: Roji Restaurant – by Bedrock
This week, we’re spotlighting Roji Restaurant, an inspiring collaboration with visionary chefs Tamas Naszai and Tomoko Hasegawa. Their dedication to Japanese culinary arts and washoku cuisine set the foundation for our design approach. Having honed their skills in renowned kitchens across London, Paris, and Tokyo—including London’s Tokimeite—Tamas and Tomoko bring a wealth of expertise to Roji. Tamas, a two-time Japanese Culinary Art Competition winner, and Tomoko share a passion for creating an experience that embodies the authenticity of washoku and the warmth of Japanese hospitality.
Situated in the heart of the city at 56B South Molton Street, W1K 5SH, Roji is designed around the concept of community and transparency. Bedrock Designed the layout to feature a central square that showcases an open kitchen, allowing guests to watch the chefs at work, and connecting diners with the culinary process. This restaurant design fosters an interactive atmosphere, inviting patrons to engage with the artistry and skill involved in crafting each dish.
The natural wood counters are a striking feature of the restaurant, positioned for an up-close view of the chefs at work. Each counter is made from carefully selected timber, showcasing a unique wavy edge that has been stripped of bark and polished for a refined finish. These counters provide an inviting spot for guests to sit and enjoy their meals while highlighting the restaurant’s dedication to authenticity and natural beauty.
