About This Project

Having completed the Pure Café for the University of Leeds, we were asked to refurbish an existing café within the Houldsworth Building, home to the School of Engineering. The space needed to become more of a social hub and focal point rather than just a quick food stop; a place for the students to relax from studies, take a break, meet friends and collaborate on work projects. Our concept complemented the building’s 1960s modernism and engineering credentials with a bright, abstract and clean look, warmed by the use of light oak. Geometric patterns create a dynamic effect within the panelling and on ceramic tiles. We redirected the customer flow to improve queuing and purchasing products and introduced a mix of banquettes, large meeting tables and pockets of soft seating.
