Impressed with our work for Caffè Nero in the Laidlaw Library, the catering team at the University of Leeds asked Bedrock to refresh the servery of the main refectory to support the launch of a brand new food offer in the Autumn term. In the first month of trading, The Refectory handled an additional 20,000 transactions. We created a new colour scheme, overhead signage, menu boards and wall graphics – all within a limited budget. The existing counters, fridges and till points were clad with a mix of rift-sawn oak and metro tiles set within an industrial metal framework. A chalk-style menu system allowed for over 60 specials within a 20-day menu rota and illustrations were commissioned to reflect the freshness and theatre of the on-the-spot preparation.
